Guar seed is the endosperm of the legume plant named Cyamopsis tetragonoloba and is in high demand in multiple industrial uses. The crop for the guar seed is cultivated for 90 – 120 days and the matured plant is yellowish in color. The guar seeds are segregated from the crop using the threshing machine.
The guar seed plant grows in semi-arid and arid environments and is drought resistant. Large volumes of guar seeds are produced across Pakistan and India, while minor guar plant cultivation is also undertaken in America, Australia, and other countries. Guar seeds are resistant and can be stored in natural conditions, with little to no pest infestation. The guar seeds can be naturally stored for as much as 2 years without any chemicals or artificial measures.
Pakistan is one of the largest growers of Guar plants where it is also used as a vegetable. The guar seeds are also processed to produce guar gum, which is a high demand powder used as stabilizing, thickening, gelling and water store agent. The green guar seeds can be directly fed to cattle or can be used in green manure. The vegetable has been used for hundreds of years in Pakistan. It’s a rain-fed crop, the cultivation period of the crop lies between July-August to October-November. It’s also an excellent crop for providing nitrogen to fertilization of the soil.
